Wedding Inspiration // The Hybrid Workshop from Erica Marr Films on Vimeo.
Wow, what a year!
I’ve always had a passion for teaching & sharing what I know, and this last work shop was the biggest one I’ve ever put on. It was called The Hybrid Workshop and I co-hosted with my great friend Kirk Mastin with Mastin Studio. Kirk is an extremely talented wedding photographer out of Seattle Washington, and he also shot my own 10 year wedding anniversary vow renewal at San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, CA. When Kirk and I were brainstorming about the next workshop, we decided that Hybrid Wedding Photography would be the most appropriate course to teach. So you might wonder what does hybrid wedding photography mean? Well, it’s for those of us that appreciate the timeless quality of film photography, while appreciating the technical advancement of the latest DSLR camera Canon, Nikon, or Sony has to offer. There is a timeless quality about film that is just so appealing to those of us who consider our work fine art wedding photography. But with the amazing low light capability of latest DSLR’s, there is definitely a place for both technology in today’s wedding photography market. It is with that in mind, we created the first workshop of its kind. We touched on everything from wedding day workflow to SEO, marketing by not paying a penny, pricing, reaching the high end market, and so much more. It was so much information to teach, we actually added a third half day just to cover it all. We had students that flew in from literally all over the country; Chicago, Michigan, Ohio, just to name a few. We even had a student that drove 20 hours to get to Palm Springs from Austin! It was such an honor and privilege to be able to share what we know with this group of 20 amazing photographers. In addition to the classroom hours; we also had an amazing stylized shoot imagined by Yellowbird Weddings & Event Production, and a life style shoot with a real couple! We even got to shoot a friend of one of the attendees out in the desert one morning. The 3 days of workshop were so fun & fulfilling. We want to especially thank Ace Hotel in Palm Springs for hosting our entire group!

We also want to thank our generous sponsors The Find Lab, Align Album Design, ProDPI, Cypress Albums, and Mastin Labs for providing our attendees a ton of goodies. We would like to give a special thank you to Belinda Olsen, office manager with The Find Lab, who came out and gave two awesome presentations on getting the color you want, and working with the film lab. What a special treat even for Kirk & I! Thank you!
